Driving instructions (voir français en bas)
From Malaga Airport - Leaving the airport, drive in the direction of MALAGA, crossing the fly-over (overpass), which will put you in the direction of Malaga. On the main road towards Malaga, you pass a gas station on your right, and then pass an exit which you DO NOT TAKE (Attention: there is a large vertical sign for ANTEQUERA which is deceptively placed just a few yards beyond this first exit ramp, leading some first-timers to take it). About 1,000 feet after the gas station you will cross a river on a rather long bridge; immediately after crossing, take the exit RONDA DE MALAGA / ANTEQUERA / GRANADA. You must now drive around the back of the city of Malaga, on the ring road (beltway) known as the "Ronda de Malaga"; you should stay on this road for about 5 miles. Take the exit ANTEQUERA / GRANADA. Continue in the direction of GRANADA. After about 40 minutes of driving, take the exit VILLANUEVA DE MESIA. (Caution: you will pass exits for three other villages bearing the name VILLANUEVA, you want "de Mesia"). Go through the town of Villanueva de Mesia, continue straight ahead for 10 miles to the village of El Tocón. Drive around the public garden, turn right at the church, go down the main street until you get to the junction with the gas station/petrol pump, where you turn left following the sign MONTEFRIO. Driving time from Malaga, 1½ hours.
From Madrid Airport - Leave the airport and head towards Madrid. Get on the M-40 beltway, direction VALENCIA. This will take you clockwise around Madrid, from the 2 o'clock to the 6 o'clock position where you take the N-IV south, direction CORDOBA. Stay as far to the left of the road as you can, because there are several lanes and you won't have much time to get over to the far left when you see the exit sign. Take this exit and you will be on the only road going south - drive straight ahead for about three hours in the direction of Jaen-Granada. After about three hours, you will come to the city of Bailén, where the motorway divides in a fork - West to Cordoba and Seville, and South to Jaen and Granada. Take the direction Jaén/Granada. About 20 miles after passing Jaén you will see a small exit sign for Campotejar. Take this exit. Go all the way down the ramp in the direction of CAMPOTEJAR. You will pass a gas station on your left; keep going until you reach a T-shaped junction where you must turn left or right. Turn right for Alcalá La Real. Follow the highway to the town of Alcalá, turning left at the first main signposted intersection. This will put you on the main street of the town, where you turn left again. Drive down the main street several blocks until you come to an intersection with the sign MONTEFRIO pointing to the right. Driving time from Madrid 5 hours. When returning to Madrid, get on the M-40 again to get to Barajas Airport. Go in the direction of VALENCIA and then follow the signs with the airport symbol. From Granada - Take direction MALAGA-CORDOBA. When leaving the town on the Malaga road, take the exit for CORDOBA. Drive in the direction of Cordoba for about half an hour, until you reach the village of PUERTO LOPE. Drive through the village. From Alicante - Direction GRANADA. When the motorway reaches Granada, take exit for CORDOBA. Drive in the direction of Cordoba for about half an hour, until you reach the village of PUERTO LOPE. Drive through the village. Just after leaving the village, take the road on the left to MONTEFRIO. Driving time from the east coast is about 5 hours.
From Seville - Direction Antequera-Granada. Stay in the direction of GRANADA. After driving for several hours, take the exit VILLANUEVA DE MESIA. (Attention: before you get to this exit, you will pass three other exits for villages bearing the name VILLANUEVA - you want "de Mesia"). Go through the town of Villanueva de Mesia, continue straight ahead for 10 miles to the village of El Tocón. Drive around the public garden, turn right at the church, go down the main street until you get to the junction with the gas station, where you turn left following the sign MONTEFRIO. Instructions de route
...en venant de l'aéroport de Malaga Roulez en direction de MALAGA. En partant de l'aéroport, après le rond-point, prenez pas la voie gauche pour traverser le viaduc, qui vous mettra dans la direction de Malaga. À 300 métres, vous traversez un fleuve par un pont assez long; tout de suite après, prenez la sortie qui est indiquée RONDA DE MALAGA / ANTEQUERA. (Attention: ne prenez pas la première sortie que l'on voit après avoir pris la route de Malaga, qui trompe facilement car il y a un grand panneau vertical écrit ANTEQUERA qui se trouve quelques métres au-delà de cette sortie; la votre est la deuxième sortie, celle qui vient après le fleuve.) Il faut faire le tour de Malaga par derrière, par le périphérique "Ronda de Malaga"; il faut continuer pendant une dizaine de kilométres. (Attention: ne prenez pas les diverses sorties qui ménent, toutes, à la ville.) La route commence à monter derrière la ville, puis redescend légerement; prenez la sortie ANTEQUERA / GRANADA. Roulez en direction de GRANADA. Après une démi-heure vous prendrez la sortie VILLANUEVA DE MESIA. (Attention: avant d'arriver à cette sortie, vous verrez trois sorties pour d'autres villages portant le nom de "Villanueva" - la votre est "de Mesia"). Traversez le village de Villanueva de Mesia, continuez tout droit pendant 20 km. au village de El Tocón. Faites le tour du jardin public, prendre à droite devant l'église, et en arrivant au carrefour où se trouve le poste d'essence, tournez à gauche en suivant le panneau marqué MONTEFRÍO. A partir de Malaga, vous en avez pour 1½ h de voyage..
...en venant de France par Hendaye Autoroute Hendaye-Burgos-Madrid. En arrivant sur Madrid, prenez la M-40 (péripherique) en direction VALENCIA - CORDOBA. Votre route est la N-IV. Quand vous voyez l'indication CORDOBA, prenez une des deux voies de gauche. La sortie est sur la gauche et n'est constituée que d'une seule voie, donc il serait facile de la dépasser si l'on se trouvait trop sur la droite. Pour rendre la chose encore plus difficile, la sortie est sur une pente descendante assez raide. Directions BAILEN, JAEN et GRANADA. Continuez vers le sud, laissant la ville de Jaen à votre gauche (sans y entrer), et prenez la sortie CAMPOTEJAR. Cliquez ici pour voir mon plan de cette route découpée. Au rond-point, descendez tout droit en direction de CAMPOTEJAR, et, 1 km plus loin, au premier carrefour, en forme de T, prendre à droite pour ALCALA LA REAL. Entrez dans le centre de la ville de Alcala, en tournant à gauche au premier feu rouge, et une fois sur la grande rue, tournez encore à gauche. Descendez la grande rue. En sortant de la ville vous verrez MONTEFRÍO à votre droite. A partir de Madrid, vous en avez pour 5 heures de voyage, en comprenant une démi-heure de repos.
...en venant de France par Barcelone Autoroute "AUTOVIA DEL MEDITERRANEO", direction MURCIA - GRANADA. En arrivant sur Grenade, prenez la sortie pour CORDOBA. Roulez en direction de Cordoba (Cordoue). On monte une longue pente et après 30 km on arrive au petit village de Puerto Lope. Traversez le village. 300 m. après la sortie du village, prenez à gauche pour MONTEFRÍO. A partir de Barcelone, vous en avez pour 10 heures de route.
...en venant de Grenade Prenez la direction pour MALAGA-CORDOBA. En sortant de la ville par la route de Malaga, prenez la sortie pour CORDOBA. Roulez dans la direction de Cordoba (Cordoue). On monte une longue pente et après 20 km on arrive au petit village de Puerto Lope. Traversez le village. 300 m. après la sortie du village, prenez à gauche pour MONTEFRÍO.
