Mercado San Agustín
Granada boasts a fine covered market, El Mercado San Agustín, just off the Gran Vía, where fish and meat are sold. Here, Lorenzo is having a thick slice of pez espada - swordfish - cut for his lunch, by a charming pescadera. In the foreground, fresh anchovy filets, which she has marinated in lemon juice and garlic for tapas.
Chirimoyas - custard apples - from the tropical valleys of Granada's coast.
Granadas - pomegranates - and fresh green asparagus (which went very nicely with the fish, by the way).
But the streets between the market building and the Plaza Bibarrambla are filled, every morning but Monday, with the vendours of fruit and vegetables, as well as chumbos, snails, lottery tickets and fine lace...

And, of course, there is the herb and spice market which sets up shop every morning along the western wall of the cathedral.
Got high blood pressure or a sore throat? Or are you sleepless and depressed? There's sure to be something for you!
But if all that fails, you can still put some spice in your life with a pinch of saffron and cinammon!
