Hospital Real
The Royal Hospital was created at the beginning of the 16th century by King Ferdinand, just outside the city walls and the Gate of Elvira, to attend to the many sick, wounded and mentally deranged people who wandered through Granada after the conquest.
Today this handsome Renaissance palace, with its majestic halls and elegant courtyards, is the administrative center - Rectorado - of Granada's University, itself created by the Monarchs' grandson, Emperor Charles V.
